Campaigns ...

The Christian Party in seeking for true reformation and revival in South Africa have launched several campaigns to adress the ills in our society and also as a mechanism through which the community can participate in a peacefull and meaningfull way to achieve “real” change.

This also provides the Party and its members the opportunity to really be “salt & light” in this broken world. It also adressed the need for a civil organization that works to improve the lives of our people.

The Christian Party campaigns focusses on every single issue that affects our communities wherever they may be. Here are two current campaigns.

Red Card Campaign ...

Introduction

The Christian Party officially launched its Red Card campaign in Standerton on 10 May 2007. Our Red Card Campaign is designed to give the man in the street a substantial political "voice."

The campaign aims to empower citizens by enabling them to blow the whistle and referee situations where government leaders double-cross taxpayers or wreak havoc on our environment. This campaign is part of the Christian Party's oversight on government and the private sector to prevent abuse, misuse, mismanagement and discrimination against the public at large, but above all, against those most vulnerable in our society.

Why a Red Card?

Just as in a sporting game, a Red Card is usually used by a Referee to control the participants and is indicative of a serious offence. We apply this analogy to the political and socio-economic climate in our country and use it as a means of peaceful protest. A Red Card is served to a person, party or institution at the discretion of the Christian Party. As a Party we are inherently against protests associated with violence. So awarding a Red Card is our way of bringing attention to unacceptable circumstances in our nation in a constructive and peaceful manner!

How does it work?

This campaign aims to get communities involved with issues impacting negatively on their towns and areas – issues such as corruption, questionable appointments, wasteful expenditure as well as a range of environmental issues to be dealt with peacefully and collectively in the public arena. A Red Card calls for time-out and consequent introspection on the part of the served.

A Red Card Campaign project is normally run in conjunction with an advertising strategy published in the respective community newspapers. Anyone is welcome to support a Red Card Campaign Project and to initiate a new campaign project in their respective towns or areas. However, all Red Card Campaign Projects will have to be sanctioned and managed by the Christian Party.

What action is taken?

A Red Card Campaign can take various forms which include but is not limited to the following actions:

  • A Press Release indicating that a Red Card have been served on a party clearly stating the reasons why;

  • Formal correspondence directed to an institution or person clearly indicating the problem and possible solutions;

  • Lodging a Formal Complaint(s) to Section 9 Institutions as described in the S.A. Constitution;

  • Posters being put up in the effected area(s) stating the problem and possible solutions to the problem(s).

  • Distribution of Petition Lists and collection of signatures of agrieved people;

  • Failure on behalf of the served party to respond with results can lead to a legal controlled and peaceful march to hand over a petition to the authorities.

  • A Campaign Project can be extended to include workshops where all parties can engage and participate in creating viable solutions to their problems.
  • To contrast poor or corrupt performance, the Christian Party will willingly issue Green Cards wherever and whenever praise and thanks are due.

It is our hope that the Red Card Campaign will evolve into a national drive underwritten by peaceful protest. The Red Card Campaign will make it possible for each South African to become constructively involved in their respective communities by offering uncomplicated involvement and support in striiving for a common goal – a bright future for all who live in South Africa.

Current and Previous Red Card Campaigns

The Christian Party’s first Red Card Campaign was held in the Lekwa Municipality, Mpumalanga, against corruption, mismanagement, nepotism. 3,000 People participated in a peacefull march where a petition was handed to the Municipal Manager. A petition was also signed by 4,800 people which was handed to the Premier of the Mpumalanga Province.

2 Thessalonians 3:13 "But as for you bretheren, do not grow weary of doing good.”

In 1982, a groundbreaking theory called the "Broken Windows Syndrome" was postulated by two American criminologists, James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling.

Briefly, their hypothesis states that a broken window in a building left unrepaired results in more and more broken windows to the point of degeneration and collapse of the neigbourhood which eventually leads to uncontrolled crime. A successful strategy for preventing crime and degeneration, say the criminologists, is to fix problems when they are small. Repair the broken windows quickly and problems will not escalate and thus law and order is maintained in neighborhoods.

The Christian Party subscribes to the vision of repairing the "broken windows" in our communities. Biblically, Nehemiah serves as our example. He rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem and restored a nation's pride through hard work, organisation and faith in God! We can trust God and work hard to fix the "broken windows" in our communities and improve the lives of everyone in our nation.

Broken Window Foundation Launched

The Christian Party Broken Window Foundation was officially introduced to the public in sitting of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature on 3 July 2007. It has been rendering crucial services in numerous communities since. Christian support of the Broken Window Foundation is paramount to its success.

Statement: Leader of the Christian Party Louis Marneweck, MPL

Tabled: Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature Tuesday, July 03, 2007 @ 14:15

Honourable Speaker,

The Christian Party wishes to announce the establishment of its civil and community service structure, the Broken Window Foundation, which will be officially introduced to the media and other relevant stakeholders.

The main driving factor behind the Broken Window Foundation is the moral and physical regeneration of our communities and the infrastructure defining them.

The Christian Party accepts that it does not only have an important political role to play in Mpumalanga and South Africa but also acknowledges its social responsibilities aimed at elevating the province and its people.

The civil service structure will be known as the Christian Party Broken Window Foundation and its community services will include welfare and social support to disadvantaged groups and individuals, the elevation of communities by means of:

  • Infrastructural renewal projects and cleaning - and maintenance ventures;
  • Sustainable job creation through community outreach programs;
  • The moral regeneration of communities through skills development programs;
  • The awarding of study bursaries and financial assistance to underprivileged scholar;
  • Exchange programs with international aid organization;
  • Assistance to affiliated Non-Governmental Organizations - and welfare and social services and;
  • The establishment of self sustainable security structures in communities where crime and poverty is rife.

The Broken Window Foundation will also actively involve itself with the war against Aids whilst assisting child headed households with skills development projects like animal rearing - and gardening as well as providing further training prospects to these children and young adults.

It is clear that the Christian Party plans to make a difference in peoples lives by actively involving itself with the political aspects infringing on day-to-day life while getting its hands dirty with involved community service.

The Christian Party would like to sow the first R10 000 of many thousands of Rand, towards the Broken Window Foundation today and believe that by the grace of God many disadvantaged will reap the benefits in future.

Acts 4:34 and the book of Proverbs serves as an example of Christian sharing upon which the Christian Party Broken Window Foundation mandate is based.

I thank you.
